Man Dies as Truck Hits Parked Tractor-Trailer

A motorist died when his truck rammed into a tractor-trailer on the Foothill Freeway in Sunland, California Highway Patrol officials said. Joseph Deanda, 34, of San Fernando was killed Monday when his pickup truck slammed into a tractor-trailer that had stopped on the right shoulder, CHP Officer Rick Serrano said. Deanda was driving about 55 m.p.h. when the accident occurred about 1:50 p.m.
The impact ripped open the cab of the truck. Deanda was pronounced dead at the scene, Serrano said. It was not clear what caused Deanda’s truck to veer into the tractor-trailer.
