The Deli Burrito: Taco Bell’s smaller competitor in the Mexican food category, Del Taco, is about to try to mix cuisines.

Del Taco is introducing a 99-cent Deli Burrito, which is essentially a ham and cheese or turkey sandwich wrapped in a tortilla. Paul Hitzelberger, Del Taco’s vice president for marketing, said the sandwich will help fend off burger chains that are trying to move into Mexican food.

“We think we’ve done them one better with the Deli Burrito, capitalizing on the popularity of two of the fastest and only growing quick-service restaurant categories--sandwiches and Mexican food,” he said.
