Jewish Group and Beverly Hills Reach Agreement on Displaying of Menorah

A Jewish organization and the city of Beverly Hills have come to a tentative agreement in a dispute over the display of a Hanukkah menorah in a municipal park, attorneys in the case said Friday.
The agreement would settle a lawsuit filed in Demember by the American Jewish Congress, which said the religious symbol in the city park violated the constitutional separation of church and state.
The Brooklyn-based movement of Hasidic Jews, Chabad, has put up the 27-foot menorah for the past six years on a section of Beverly Gardens Park, across Santa Monica Boulevard from the civic center.
Under the agreement, the menorah will be displayed a park area between Rodeo and Beverly drives, where it cannot be seen from the civic center complex. The menorah must also be displayed close to an illuminated, decorated Christmas tree.
