More Trouble for Braniff: Barely a month after its rebirth, Braniff International Airlines filed for protection from creditors under Chapter 11 in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Happauge, N.Y. The new Braniff, based in Dallas, had been in business since only July 1. The carrier said the filing was because of “substantial financial damage” when “denial” and “interference” with landing rights at Los Angeles International Airport caused the loss of a major contract and cancellation of its regularly scheduled flights between Dallas and Los Angeles. LAX officials denied the charges and said they would fight any legal action by the carrier.
