AT&T; Wants to Increase Service Charges: The company asked the Federal Communications Commission to approve increased charges for directory assistance and operator-assisted calls. It also asked permission to offer greater discounts on some of its calling plans. The charge for out-of-state, operator-assisted calling card calls would increase to $1.88 from $1.75. That would also be the new charge for collect, billed-to-third-number and pay phone coin calls. The charge for an out-of-state directory assistance call would rise to 65 cents from 60 cents. The increases would become effective Sept. 1.
