FINALLY KING: It was an Orange County lawyer who authored the legal papers that forced Los Angeles Judge Bernard J. Kamins off the Rodney King case. . . . William J. Kopeny, co-counsel for King defendant Theodore Briseno, said the timing forced him to write the appeal over an exhaustive weekend. But the appellate court took his side. . . . “As a criminal defense lawyer, you get so used to losing, it’s nice to win an important one,” Kopeny said.
