Shots Fired at Home of No. 2 Nicaragua Official

Associated Press

A gunman fired seven shots at Vice President Virgilio Godoy’s home, damaging some cars but causing no injuries. Godoy blamed the opposition Sandinistas.

Godoy’s wife, Sonia, said police investigators determined that a Soviet-made pistol was used in the attack Sunday.

Godoy, a harsh Sandinista critic, called the attack “part of a terrorist campaign” by the leftist political party ousted in last year’s elections after 10 years in power.
