Developments Ignite Growth Debate

The article on the planned new housing projects in Orange County (“O.C. Readies for Building Surge,” Nov. 12) completely ignored the county’s growing population, which is the primary reason these developments exist.
If a baby food manufacturer responded to a population boom by making more baby food, it would not be criticized or accused of greed. Certainly, no one would charge it with causing the boom by making baby food available.
Why, then, are we so eager to blame developers and home builders for the sometimes negative effects of our population growth--especially when two-thirds of that growth is the result of county residents having babies?
