The membership was announced Wednesday of the committee that will search for a successor to retiring University of California President David P. Gardner.
The committee, all members of the UC Board of Regents, will be headed by Jacques S. Yeager, a construction company executive from Riverside. Also appointed to the selection panel by board Chairwoman Meredith Khachigian were Harold M. Williams, president of the J. Paul Getty Trust in Los Angeles; Dean A. Watkins, a Palo Alto businessman; Clair W. Burgener, the former congressman from San Diego, and Alice J. Gonzales of Rocklin, a former Cabinet member in Gov. George Deukmejian’s Administration.
The panel will also include Gov. Pete Wilson, who is an ex-officio regent; the president of the UC alumni associations, Ralph M. Ochoa; student Regent Diana Darnell, a graduate student at UC San Francisco; Roy T. Brophy, a Sacramento-area builder, and Khachigian.
In addition, advisory groups of UC faculty, students, staff and alumni will be formed to help in the candidate screening process, officials said.
