NATION IN BRIEF : WASHINGTON, D.C. : Bush Rejects Primary Debates, Aide Says

President Bush will not debate conservative commentator Patrick J. Buchanan “nor any other primary candidate,” White House Press Secretary Marlin Fitzwater said. Buchanan announced this week that he will challenge the President for the Republican nomination and indicated that he will make a major effort in the Feb. 18 New Hampshire primary, the first primary of the presidential campaign. Fitzwater said that Bush planned to have an active campaign in New Hampshire.
