China Studies Limits on Nuclear Arms

National legislators this week will study and probably approve a proposal for China to sign the international Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, a government spokesman said Friday.

China agreed in principle in August to sign the treaty, which has been signed by 140 countries and limits the transfer of nuclear materials. It is the only one of five declared nuclear powers that hasn’t signed the accord.
