THE LAST WORD: Spinal Tap may be the one band not claiming to be the next Nirvana, but it’s making a bid to be known as the first Nirvana. “I think Seattle is the last hotbed of Tap influence,” singer David St. Hubbins told the English rock weekly NME. “You’ve got Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, a lot of great bands coming out of that area. All of them ‘fess up to Tap influences. Except the smart ones.”
