U.S. to Appeal Contempt Order Against FBI Agent

The U.S. attorney’s office, acting on behalf of an FBI agent, filed notice on Friday that it will appeal a federal judge’s order holding Special Agent Richard E. Boeh in contempt because he refused to testify during a trial involving the Los Angeles Police Department.
U.S. District Judge J. Spencer Letts’ order was issued Thursday, midway through a $10-million civil rights suit claiming that the Police Department’s Special Investigation Section is a “death squad” whose officers fatally shot three robbery suspects as they left a McDonald’s in Sunland on Feb. 12, 1990.
The Justice Department contends that Boeh’s testimony would hinder his investigation and violate rules making grand jury testimony secret.
