Desert Winds Push High Temperatures Into the Low 80s

Winds from the high desert pushed Ventura County temperatures into the high 70s to low 80s Thursday, about 15 to 20 degrees above normal, a meteorologist said.
Despite the warmer-than-usual temperatures, no records were broken, said Terry Schaeffer, National Weather Service meteorologist.
During this time of year, Schaeffer said, the county “almost always has a week where it reaches the 80s.” However, normal temperatures for midwinter are in the mid-60s, he said.
Santa Ana winds between 25 to 30 m.p.h. rattled Moorpark and the Santa Rosa Valley, but should dissipate to mild breezes by today, Schaeffer said.
Six- to eight-foot waves have also been pounding the Ventura County shoreline for the past two days due to a series of storms originating north of Hawaii, said Rea Strange, a Pacific Weather Analysis meteorologist.
However, no rescues were reported, Channel Islands Harbor Police Officer Gary Hirtensteiner said.
High clouds and cooler temperatures in the mid- to upper 70s are expected today, Schaeffer said. Light showers are forecast late Saturday.
“Hopefully, we’ll get into a wet pattern next week,” Schaeffer said.
