Sacramento Player Commits to SDSU

San Diego State received its 16th oral commitment when DeMario Evans, a running back and defensive back from Grant High School in Sacramento, said Tuesday he plans to play football for the Aztecs next fall.

Evans, who was recruited as an outside linebacker by SDSU, was a three-year starter at Grant. He played linebacker his sophomore season, linebacker and running back his junior year and running back and defensive back as a senior.

“He’s a very exceptional athlete,” Grant Coach Mike Alberghini said. “He’s a mixture of quickness, strength and power. He breaks a lot of tackles, has great hands and is a big-time hitter.”

Evans, 6-feet, 205-pounds, also visited Oregon and Utah State. Alberghini said Evans has already qualified academically for admission to SDSU.

Today is the first day high school seniors may sign national letters of intent. SDSU Coach Al Luginbill plans announce the Aztecs’ recruiting class this afternoon.
