CAMARILLO : Trustees Present Middle School Plans

As 150 parents listened, Camarillo school officials presented several options Thursday for locating up to three middle schools in the district, an idea trustees are considering along with a plan to lessen overcrowding.
Under the proposals, middle schools could be located at one or more of the following: Monte Vista Intermediate School, Los Altos Intermediate School and Las Colinas School.
Some Las Colinas parents came out to protest the possibility that their children’s school would be transformed into a middle school.
If Monte Vista becomes the only middle school, sixth-graders would be bused there from Las Colinas and Santa Rosa Elementary, leaving kindergarten through fifth-grade students at those schools.
The middle school curriculum would be for sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students. The district now has sixth-graders attending 11 elementary schools and seventh- and eighth-graders going to two intermediate schools.
Officials are considering bringing in middle schools because they say the curriculum change is long overdue, but they also see it as a way of handling serious overcrowding projected for the coming years.
