MEN’S BASKETBALL

All of Azusa Pacific’s starters scored in double figures in a 97-88 victory over Point Loma Nazarene College. PLNC (12-6, 4-8 in the Golden State Athletic Conference) was led by Charlie Simmons’ 18 points and 10 rebounds. Azusa Pacific improved to 16-13, 6-5.

BASEBALL

Center fielder Derek Vinyard went four for four, scored three runs and stole three bases to lead San Diego State to a 9-4 victory over Cal Baptist (0-8) at Smith Field.

Also for SDSU (9-5), right fielder Rich Juarez went two for three and drove in two runs.

BOXING

Robert Allen of Camp Pendleton stopped Antwon Echols of Davenport, Iowa, with a first-round technical knockout in a 156-pound semifinal bout at the U.S. Amateur Boxing Championships at Colorado Springs.

In the heavyweight division, Reginal Blackmon of San Diego lost a 15-12 decision in his semifinal bout to Samson Pouha of Kearns, Utah.
