LOOKING UP: No one claims the recession is over, but Dana Point officials see one sign of hope: Their tax take from the city’s hotels and motels hit a record in January, usually a bad month. But this year the bed tax from 10 hotels and motels tallied $221,544, up 11.8% over January, 1991. . . . City Finance Director Loron Cox says the bed tax accounts for one-third of the city’s $11 million in annual revenue.
