SANTA ANA : Grant Sought for Anti-Gang Program

The City Council this month approved an application to the National Park Service for a $50,000 grant that would help expand an anti-gang program called Project PRIDE.
Project PRIDE (Parks and Recreation Inspire Dignity and Esteem) now offers an eight-week program aimed at teaching goal-setting and decision-making skills to thousands of fourth- and fifth-graders and discouraging them from joining gangs.
The federal grant, which is to be awarded in July, would help fund staff and activities for a similar PRIDE program designed for teen-agers. The council approved the request at its March 3 meeting.
