Arts and entertainment reports from The Times, national and international news services and the nation's press

On the Right Track: Jack Benny made Cucamonga a household name, and now the community plans to erect a statue in his honor. A running gag on Benny’s shows for years featured the voice of Mel Blanc as a train stationmaster announcing: “Train leaving on Track 5 for Anaheim, Azusa and Coooo-ca-mon-gaaa!” The statue will be paid for through fund-raising events, the first of which will be a spring garden party Sunday at an estate in the foothills of Rancho Cucamonga. Artist-sculptor Larry Noble has been commissioned to create the 7-foot monument, which is scheduled to be unveiled Feb. 14, 1993. That date would have been Benny’s 99th--or was it 39th?--birthday.
