Don Nelson, whose Warriors won 55 games during the regular season, was the named NBA coach of the year for an unprecedented third time.
After leading the Warriors to their best record in 16 years, Nelson received 26 of a possible 96 votes from a panel of sports broadcasters and writers who made the selection. Pat Riley of the New York Knicks was second with 21 votes, followed by Phil Jackson of the Chicago Bulls with 17.
