Four U.N. Agencies May Leave New York: New York City’s economy faces a new loss of revenue and jobs as four United Nations agencies consider leaving, according to Crain’s New York Business. An article in the weekly business newspaper’s May 25 edition says three agencies--the U.N. Development Program, the U.N. Population Fund and the U.N. Development Fund for Women--are examining an offer of rent-free accommodation in Germany. Separately, UNICEF may decide to reduce its $10-million-a-year Manhattan rent to just $531,156 by relocating to a site in New Rochelle, N.Y. It also is considering sites in Long Island City, Queens and Westchester County. Crain’s estimates that the departure of the U.N. agencies would mean a loss of $200 million and nearly 2,300 jobs to New York’s economy.
