CANDID CAMERA: If you’re about to crest on Brookhurst Street as it passes north over the San Diego Freeway, you can see for yourself if you’re driving too fast. The Fountain Valley Police Department’s digital speed detector will tell you. After a year of operation, says the department’s Sgt. Darryl Nance, “it affects people’s speed; they wonder if a motorcycle cop is behind it.” The safety tool is moved around to strategic locations with known traffic problems. . . . Says Nance: “It’s just a reminder: Hey, slow down a little.”
