URBAN COWBOY II?: Crowe may be joking about making a country movie, but others aren’t. Shooting just wrapped in Las Vegas on “Pure Country,” a $10-million Warner Bros. production starring George Strait, whom director Chris Cain (“Young Guns”) described to Pop Eye as “a natural actor,” comparing his screen presence to those of Alan Ladd and Gary Cooper. The film is scheduled to premiere in early October in Nashville.

There’s more country on the way. At least six other films featuring scripts about country music singers are reportedly in pre-production at major Hollywood studios.

And Garth Brooks was said to have recently made a screen test.
