WHO SAYS? The “Hottest Writing Program in the Country.” That’s how Newsweek rates UC Irvine’s graduate Program in Writing in an article on “the new literary West.” But longtime UCI English professor Donald Heiney, who helped found the program, takes the accolade in stride. . . . “It’s a journalistic impulse to rank things like this,” says Heiney, who retired last year. “But I don’t think it’s possible to rank (writing programs) because they’re so different. It’s like comparing three or four good books.”
