LOS ANGELES : 3 in Drug-Making Ring Given Heavy Sentences

Leaders of a large methamphetamine supply organization, including two former law enforcement officers, were sentenced to long prison terms Monday.

Charles W. Arlt, the leader of the ring, was sentenced to life in prison, as was James E. Wren, a former jail warden from Mississippi. A third defendant, James Hill, was sentenced to 25 years in prison. Hill once worked for the Vacaville Police Department.

According to prosecutors and drug agents, Arlt’s organization was one of the biggest suppliers ever uncovered of so-called precursor chemicals used in the manufacture of methamphetamine.
