Claremont High Girl Wins Korea Essay Prize

Cristina Cratty of Claremont High School is among the winners of the Korea Society essay contest, “My Images of Korea and Koreans.”
Cratty, who placed second and won $1,000, was born in Korea and adopted by Americans. In her essay she writes: “I have rarely experienced racism. However, during the recent Los Angeles riots, many Korean shops were burned. For the first time, I began to realize the animosity that some African-Americans and Korean-Americans feel toward each other.”
The Korea Society of Los Angeles works in international relations, trade, culture and public education on U.S.-Korean relations and on the Korean-American community in the United States.
