From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Zales Files Reorganization Plan: Zale Corp., the nation’s biggest jewelry retailer, has filed a plan to emerge from bankruptcy. It also reported an annual loss of $960 million. Despite the huge loss, the Dallas-based company said it was encouraged by the preliminary results and said sales were on target. The reorganization plan has the support of Zale’s creditors, suppliers and banks, the company said. It calls for restructuring and consolidation of subsidiaries and an exchange of equity for creditors’ debt.
