BURNED UP: The Orange County Fair’s record crowds were a boon to the local chapter of the American Heart Assn. More than 1,500 fair-goers signed a petition asking for tougher local laws against smoking. And another 2,000 young people took time off from rides to sign a pledge that they would never smoke. . . . Says the chapter’s Connie Kerr: “People would say, ‘Give me that petition! I’m so tired of going into restaurants and smelling someone’s smoke.’ ”
