Silver medalist Jason Morris had a bumpy ride to the first medal won by any American in judo’s half-middleweight class.
He fought his way through a particularly difficult draw, defeating four tough opponents. In the final, Morris, 25, of Scotia, N.Y., was thrown by Japan’s Hidehilo Yoshida.

“I flew Air Japan,” Morris said.
