Terrie Cate, 18, an incoming freshman with the UC Irvine women’s soccer team, died at Irvine Medical Center after collapsing during a six-mile run Wednesday on the first day of practice.
Cate’s mother, Shirley Cate of Escondido, said doctors indicated her daughter suffered heat stroke. An autopsy is scheduled for today, a spokesman for the Orange County coroner’s office said.
Sergio Echevarria, a 17-year-old San Fernando High football player, died of heat stroke Thursday after collapsing at a practice Tuesday.
