OAK VIEW : Charges Added in Burglary Cases

A Ventura man who was identified as the suspect in an Oak View child molesting and burglary case through DNA testing has been charged in connection with three other incidents.

Deputy Dist. Atty. Mark Pachowicz said he filed an amended complaint Monday against Dennis Fredman, 30, bringing the total number of counts against him to eight.

Fredman is now charged with three counts of child molesting, three counts of burglary, and two counts of attempted burglary, Pachowicz said.

A preliminary hearing that had been scheduled for Monday has been delayed until Oct. 5.

“We’re still investigating, and the defense wants to review the new information,” Pachowicz said. “There’s a new decision out of trials in Alameda County relating to DNA evidence and its admissibility that we are trying to deal with.”

Fredman’s attorney, public defender Gary Windom, was unavailable for comment.

Fredman was arrested in May at his brother’s house in Dover Township, N.J., two months after a DNA test identified him as the suspect in a Dec. 20 break-in at an Oak View residence, sheriff’s deputies said.

In the Oak View case, Fredman is accused of molesting a 10-year-old girl in her room while her parents slept nearby.

The new charges are related to a series of “hot prowl” burglaries in Ventura and Oak View, in which the prowler broke into houses when residents were home, sheriff’s deputies said.
