Child Turns In Mother for Smoking Crack

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. — A pregnant woman was arrested after one of her six children called 911 to report that she was smoking crack, police said.
Joyce Howard, 28, tried to smoke the drug even after officers arrived at her home Wednesday, Suffolk County police spokesman Sgt. Garry Murphy said. Her children were temporarily placed in a neighbor’s care and Child Protective Services was notified, he said.
Howard was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and endangering the welfare of a child, Murphy said.
