Wallace Hospitalized for Bowel Ailment

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Former Gov. George C. Wallace was hospitalized Friday for treatment of a possible bowel obstruction and was in critical condition, a hospital spokeswoman said.
The four-term governor had been admitted in serious condition, but it was downgraded to critical and he was in intensive care, said Vicky Jones, a Jackson Hospital spokeswoman.
She said Wallace was receiving antibiotics for treatment of septic shock, a bloodstream infection.
Wallace, 73, was released from University Hospital in Birmingham on Aug. 25 after a two-week stay during which doctors diagnosed him with Parkinson’s disease, a degenerative ailment of the nervous system.
