Flawless Bet Not a Good One

I almost choked on my alfalfa when I read “Betting With Janice” about Mr. Jim Rome betting $250 to place on the 1-2 shot Flawlessly in last Sunday’s eighth race at Santa Anita. I suppose trying to get 10 cents on every dollar bet is Mr. Rome’s idea of a quick profit, but I’m sure if Damon Runyon had observed this wager, he would have had a special name for this guy. I have always called this type of player a bridge-jumper, because if you miss once, over you go.

Money management along with good handicapping techniques are critical in the racing game. If you opt to follow Mr. Rome’s alternatives, prepare yourself for an “Achy Brokey Heart.”
