A selection of skateboard slang:

deck: n . the skateboard. “I lost my deck at the funbox.”

fifty-fifty: n . a trick in which the skateboard slides on an edge or rail with two left wheels on one side and two right wheels on the other.

funbox: n . platform with ramps and rails and steps used in practice and competition.

hiddy: adj. worn out or abused, short for hideous. “Those wheels are hiddy .”

no comply: n . a move in which a skater takes his or her foot off the board to launch board and rider up and over a curb.

nose grind: n . stunt in which the nose and front truck of the skateboard slide along a curb’s edge

Ollie: n . stunt in which the skater jumps with the skateboard onto or over an object, invented by skateboard guru Alan Gelfand.

pulled: v . performed a perfect stunt. “I pulled an Ollie.”

shove-it: n . a stunt in which the tail is slammed down, snapping the nose upward, and the board is pivoted 180 or 360 degrees.

slapped: v . crashed. Also slammed, buried or ate it.

thrash: v. to skateboard. “We thrashed till we ate it.”

truck: n . pivoting device connecting the wheels and the axle to the board.

work: v. to complete every stunt possible at one location. “Hey, you really worked the park yesterday.”
