Where Mayberry Fans Can Fill Up

BRADFORD, Ohio — Gomer and Goober aren’t around, but a replica of the station where they pumped gas on television’s “Andy Griffith Show” is waiting for them in rural western Ohio.

Bob Scheib took a shed attached to his barn and turned it into a recreation of the station seen on the 1960s comedy series about a small-town sheriff and his friends in Mayberry, N.C.

The trappings of Scheib’s station are nearly identical to the ones on the show.

Overhead is a sign reading “Wally’s Service.” Two pumps offer Acme Gas, a thermometer near the door says “Chew Mail Pouch Tobacco,” and there’s a cigarette machine on the porch.

Inside is a mock-up of Floyd’s barbershop.

“I can remember watching the show with my mom and grandma when I was real little,” Scheib said. “Now my kids like the show. It’s still funny after watching it over and over.”
