In response to “From Sewer to Shining Sea” (by Jonathan Gold, Three on the Town, Oct. 11): No one has proposed any great solution to the DDT problem, but at least the sanitation districts are trying to keep that contamination buried so that it can’t hurt the starfish, sea urchins, clams and snails that live on the bottom.
The sediments that lie atop the DDT are released from the Sanitation District’s main treatment plant. They’re considerably cleaner than they used to be, thanks to aggressive control of industry and the upgrading of treatment that has taken place.
