The best steak in town may cost you more than that shoe leather down the street, but that bottle of wine you just paid $14 for at the discount shop didn’t suddenly become worth $36 just because it’s being poured alongside that steak.

Thus does the wine list at Arnie Morton’s reflect its Midwest heritage: Pricing is ludicrously high--about what I’d expect in a Chicago restaurant.

The example above, reflecting the two prices for 1988 Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon, may not be the best; Mondavi Cabernet is often discounted heavily. But Morton’s margins on wine are so out of line, it might be best to consider bringing in your own wine and paying the $16 corkage.
