CHRISTMAS LIGHTS : The Los Angeles area is ablaze this season with a variety of spectacular light displays. Here is a small sampling:

WEST HILLS 7930 Bobbyboyar Ave. This residence features more than 2,000 Christmas lights, Santa’s sleigh and reindeer, in addition to two fully decorated Christmas trees. SHERMAN OAKS 447 Atoll Ave. This is the 10th year that resident Sandra Bostram has decorated her home for the holidays. The Bostram residence is covered by more than 1,000 Christmas lights and handcrafted decorations, including candy canes, reindeer, and a jack-in-the-box. BEVERLY HILLS 9463 Sunset Blvd. This country estate on the edge of Beverly Hills has featured a holiday display annually for the past 10 years. This year, more than 175,000 lights cover the home and life-size snowmen step out with hats and canes. PACOIMA 11640 Bromont Ave. This residence features a holiday display with a Nativity scene, an outdoor Christmas tree and lights. Many other homes on the block feature various holiday displays. BURBANK 3216 N. Kenneth Road For more than 20 years, the Avery family has decorated this residence, which features a Nativity scene, toy soldiers and a 10-foot Christmas tree. CERRITOS Kings Row Avenue and Castle Place Not only do these streets sound royal, their holiday displays are fit for a king. Both streets are filled with rows of Christmas displays and elaborately lighted homes, many with individual themes, including “A Country Christmas.” One home on Castle Place features a small, mobile hot-air balloon with a menagerie of stuffed animals in the front yard. INGLEWOOD 3rd, 4th, 5th and Hardy streets Each of these streets is lighted with colorful Christmas lights and displays. Fifth Street features trees wrapped in ribbon and foil in addition to lights. PASADENA Hastings Ranch This year, Hastings Ranch will feature its 36th annual Christmas display, composed of 1,100 individually decorated homes in a 44-block area. The display will last until Dec. 30. ALTADENA Christmas Tree Lane This one-mile stretch of lighted deodar trees on Santa Rosa Avenue between Woodbury Road and Altadena Drive is popularly known as Christmas Tree Lane and became a California Historic Landmark in 1990. The tradition of lighting the 90-foot trees began in the 1920s with department store owner F.C. Nash and is continued today by a nonprofit association. ALTADENA 1960 Mendocino Lane The “house of 10,000 lights,” a Mediterranean mansion owned by ice cream magnate George Balian, features thousands of brilliant Christmas lights covering its facade.
