RETAILING

From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Macy’s Anticipates Store Closures: R. H. Macy & Co. said it is continuing to review its operations and anticipates closing some department stores this year. A spokesman said no final decision has been made about which stores and how many, but it would be a “relatively small number.” Macy’s, with more than 200 department stores, a year ago became the biggest retailer ever to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection with $5.3 billion in debts and $4.95 billion in assets. The company operates Macy’s, I. Magnin and Bullock’s stores.
