The House passed and sent to the Senate a bill (HR 750) extending until July, 1994, a law curbing the export of U.S. technology to hostile countries. The bill funds the Export Control Administration at $43 million annually. It extends Cold War-era controls, giving the government time to develop a new law that will serve both economic growth and national security.
Supporter Benjamin A. Gilman (R-N.Y.) said the bill begins “the process of overhauling this system (to) meet the challenges of the post-Cold War period.”
No opponent spoke against the bill. The vote was 330 for and 54 against. A yes vote was to pass the bill.
