Italy’s Deborah Compagnoni returned to the top of the medal podium for the first time since the 1992 Winter Olympics, winning a World Cup super-giant slalom race in Morzine, France.

Compagnoni won the super-G gold medal at the Albertville Olympics, but two days later she tore left knee ligaments in the giant slalom.

At Morzine, Compagnoni had a run of 1 minute, 12.66 seconds, edging super-G world champion Katja Seizinger of Germany.

Seizinger, who secured the World Cup downhill title with a victory Saturday, was second in 1:12.80. Anita Wachter of Austria protected her lead atop the overall World Cup standings, placing third in 1:12.96.
