Herricanes Tie Defending Champions

The Mission Viejo Herricanes tied the defending champions, Paradise Valley (Ariz.) Shamrocks, 1-1, in a pool-play game of the girls’ under-19 division of the Dallas Cup XIV soccer tournament Tuesday in Dallas.

Maggie Merritt scored the Herricanes’ goal and goalie Traci Jensen had 10 saves.

Stephani Hughes scored three goals to lead the Coast Soccer League select team to a 6-0 pool-play victory over Grun Weiss Brauweiler (Germany). CSL lost to Fury 74 (Okla.), 1-0, in another pool-play game Tuesday.

In the girls’ under-16 division, Lindsay Rogers and Jo Allen Bosco each scored a goal to lead the Mission Viejo Goldstrikers defeated Alvsjo Aik (Sweden), 2-0.
