Board Cuts Cost for Adult Sports

Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District officials have agreed to lower the cost for adult sports leagues to play on school fields.

Adult baseball and soccer teams are allowed to play at Glenn High School, but have not since February, 1992, when the school board required leagues to hire two sheriff’s deputies at $50 each to monitor their games.

In a 5-2 vote Monday, the board lifted the requirement after leagues objected to the cost. Instead, the teams must hire a district security guard at $20 an hour, said LeGayle Black, assistant superintendent for business services.

Board members Rudy Bermudez and Jesse M. Luera voted against the change, saying the new requirement was not restrictive enough for soccer players who disturb local residents.
