Pasadena Symphony Season to Open Oct. 23

Jorge Mester will conduct all five subscription concerts in the Pasadena Symphony’s 66th season, opening Oct. 23 in Pasadena Civic Auditorium.
At the first event, the orchestra’s music director will lead a program comprising a suite from Bartok’s “Miraculous Mandarin” ballet, Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony and, with Jorge Federico Osorio as soloist, Ravel’s Left-Hand Piano Concerto.
The remaining concerts on the series, all scheduled for 8:30 p.m. on Saturdays, will offer these soloists and repertory:
Nov. 20: Hector Olivera, organ. R. Strauss: “Also sprach Zarathustra”; Saint-Saens: Symphony No. 3.
Jan. 8: Olivier Charlier, violin. Adams: “Short Ride on a Fast Machine”; Bruch: Violin Concerto No. 1; Schubert: Symphony No. 8 (“Unfinished”); Respighi: “Feste Romane.”
March 26: Valery Kuleshov, piano. Stravinsky: Divertimento, “Le Baiser de la Fee”;Prokofiev: Symphony No. 7; Tchaikovsky: Piano Concerto No. 1.
April 30: Peter Lightfoot, baritone; Pacific Chorale. Dvorak: Czech Suite; Janacek:Sinfonietta; Walton: “Belshazzar’s Feast.”
