Women Take Up Arms in Wave of Sex Attacks

GARY, Ind. — Some women sleep with guns by their sides. Others are installing steel bars across their windows to protect themselves from a rapist who cuts through window screens.
Over the past two months, an intruder has slipped into six homes and raped women at gunpoint, police said. Investigators won’t specify the neighborhoods where the rapes have occurred, but Cpl. Bill Burns said no section of the city has been safe.
