Westside : Tour to Benefit Homeless

A benefit tour on Sunday offers participants a peek at some of the best-kept architectural secrets in West Los Angeles.
The Architects for Shelter tour benefits the Ocean Park Community Center in Santa Monica, a group providing services for the homeless, battered women and runaways.
Participants on the $75 tour will get maps to guide them from site to site around West Los Angeles, beginning at 2440 S. Sepulveda Blvd. Participants should arrive between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.; the tour ends at 5 p.m.
The first stop is a milk-plant-turned-office-building. Visitors then go to the Veterans Administration complex, a little-known collection of architectural treasures.
Later stops include an African art gallery, a shop full of well-known architectural models and a private home with innovative earthquake protection and an unusual furniture collection.
The tour ends at a Frank Gehry-designed house with an impressive modern-art collection.
Additional stops include a nursery and a natural spring that is an important Native American landmark.
Several Westside restaurants will provide refreshments along the way.
