Brown Captures Ventura Surf Title

Chris Brown of Santa Barbara won the title at the Bud Surf Tour event Sunday in Ventura.

Jeff Deffenbaugh of Huntington Beach was second and Tim Curren of Oxnard third. Brown won $4,000, Deffenbaugh got $2,250 and Curren won $1,300.

Rob Machado of Cardiff was eliminated in the quarterfinal round but still clinched the tour’s overall title. Deffenbaugh was fourth and Richie Collins fifth in the overall standings.
