World IN BRIEF : FRANCE : 88 Algerians Arrested in Nationwide Sweep

Eighty-eight Algerians were arrested across France as authorities sought a link between Muslim fundamentalists and the kidnaping of French consular officials in Algeria. Police also seized false identity papers, large sums of money and documents of Algeria’s banned Islamic Salvation Front in sweeps through 24 communities, officials said. The arrests came 10 days after the release of three French consular officials who had been held hostage in Algiers for a week.
